One of my favorite paper quilling embellishments that I’ve started using in the past couple years is a metallic edge. I love the shiny metallic look added to my paper quilling, especially with jewelry! It is also great for adding special effects to quilling in frames, and for cardmaking and other paper crafts! I put together a tutorial to show how I use mica watercolor pigments to achieve this awesome metallic look.
The paint I am using in this tutorial is one that I bought from USArtquest. There are several different color shade palettes, depending on whether you want light colors, dark colors, etc. There are also some options on Amazon. I haven’t tried them, but the reviews are good. Some are just sparkly/pearlescent, and others are mica like the ones I used. The actual mica paints are more expensive.

I'm currently using Quilled Creations' water sparklers, which are pretty much the same thing as the mica watercolor pigments, but I am looking into trying the mica ones sometime because it looks like they have a much larger variety. Out of curiosity, though, do you just prefer the mica watercolors (cheaper, larger variety, etc.) or have you tried the Quilled Creations ones and don't like them as much (for one reason or another)?
Hi :) thanks for the comment. I do have some of the Quilled Creations water sparklers in the paler colors. I use those as well when I want those shades. As far as I can tell they are identical in use - actually I think they might be made by the same source as the "made in" city is the same for both ;) I just use my mica tray more often as I use those darker colors more often. Eventually I want to get more of the mica shades as well!
